Senior Backend Engineer - Settlement & Ledger

Our client operates a payments platform built on Go and Postgres. They've scaled to the point where the settlement and ledger layer needs someone who's run this kind of system in production before, not learned it on the job.

You'll own the design, operation, and reliability of the settlement and ledger system end-to-end. This means designing for correctness under load, responding to on-call incidents, driving root-cause investigation, and setting the standards that keep money moving accurately. You'll define data integrity rules across the Postgres-backed ledger and enforce them across the platform.

You'll also lead a small backend engineering team. That means code review, setting technical direction, and supporting engineers day-to-day on how to build reliable systems.

What we're looking for

You've operated a financial system or similar mission-critical ledger in production. You understand settlement workflows, reconciliation, idempotency, and the operational discipline required to move money correctly at scale. You've debugged tricky consistency issues and know how to design for them upfront.

You're comfortable with Go and Postgres. You can write code, but you're also comfortable operating what you've written - reading logs, understanding query performance, understanding failure modes.

You've led engineers before. You don't need to have managed a large team, but you've shaped how a small group of people approaches problems, reviewed their code, and helped them level up.

You can carry on-call responsibility without it burning you out. You triage incidents, stay calm under pressure, and treat root-cause analysis as the primary job.

The work

You'll report to the engineering leadership. You'll work across product, ops, and the rest of the backend team. You'll spend time writing code, reviewing code, designing systems, and talking through hard problems with people who know how to think about them.

This is a hands-on role. You're not managing up from a distance. You're in the codebase, on-call, and present with your team.
